Phoebe Farris is Full Professor of Art and Design/Women's Studies and the Women's Studies Associate Director at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She teaches courses on feminist art criticism, gender and multiculturalism, art education, art therapy, and art and design, and conducts research on multicultural/gender issues in art. She has published extensively in national/international journals and presented lectures/workshops at national/international conferences. Her recent publications include Voices of Color: Art and Society in the Americas (Humanities Press) and Women Artists of Color." A Bio-Critical Sourcebook to Twentieth Century Artists in the Americas (Greenwood Publications) (reviewed in Aurora Vol. I, 2000). She is the recipient of the Fulbright Grant to Mexico, the Global Initiative Faculty Grant/MUCIA (Midwestern Universities Consortium International Association) to Brazil, the Purdue Research Foundation Travel Grant to Cuba (three times), the Rockefeller Humanities Fellowship, and the National Endowment for the Humanities Grant. Active in the contemporary art world, Farris has exhibited in national/international venues including the 1996 Women of Color video production at the Beijing, China International Women's Conference.
